ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm Jay Suvaal

Jay Suvaal will be a fresh approach for Cessnock

Jay Suvaal is a local through and through. He was born in Cessnock Hospital, grew up in Kearsley, attended the local primary school, and Mt View High School. He now lives in Cessnock with his wife Emily and their sons Ethan and Caleb.

Jay has played a number of sports locally, including hockey where he has represented Cessnock at the NSW State Championships.

As a Councillor since 2016 Jay has taken a fresh approach to the role. He has worked collaboratively with all Councillors to achieve the best outcomes for our community.

Jay has an Advanced Diploma of Business and knows how important it is for Council to maintain a balanced budget and to continue to attract grant funding so we can deliver more projects for our local government area.

He is working to attract more funding for our local roads and to prioritise key infrastructure projects like the Cessnock CBD Bypass projects to ease traffic congestion on Wollombi Road. He will also hold the State Government and property developers to account to ensure they deliver on the key projects in our area like upgrading Main Road Heddon Greta.

Jay also has a firm focus on local jobs. As someone who has had to travel out of the area for work, he understands the importance of creating local jobs. He wants to encourage more jobs in the Cessnock Local Government area so locals can choose to remain local – accessing quality jobs and services where they live.

Jay will be a fresh approach for the people of Cessnock and will work to make our town an even better place to live, work and raise a family.

What I Stand For!

I believe that as a Councillor my role to listen to local residents and act in a constructive and responsible manner to ensure the decisions we make benefit the whole community.

I want to lead a Council that works together to achieve financial and organisational stability, a Council that engages and delivers for our community, and a Council that supports our local government area’s continued growth and economic development.

I will ensure Council’s finances are managed sustainably in order to continue to deliver the services we need for our community. I will ensure Council actively seeks grant funding to support the future development of our local government area.

If elected as Mayor I will be a fresh approach for Cessnock and continue to fight to:

  • Increase funding to improve our local roads;

  • Further develop our local cycleways and footpaths;

  • Improve our parks, playgrounds, and sporting facilities;

  • Invest in our community to create more local jobs;

  • Revitalise our libraries and community facilities; and

  • Ensure Council engages and involves our community in decision making.
